Janet (Jie) Yang, Ph.D., is a dedicated leader serving as the Founder, CEO, and CTO of BioMetis Technology Inc., where she applies her expertise in biotechnology and synthetic biology to drive impactful change. With over 18 years of industry experience, Dr. Yang has played a pivotal role in the development and commercialization of bio-based products, guided by her steadfast commitment to green chemistry principles.  

Throughout her career, Dr. Yang has achieved significant milestones, including the acquisition of approximately 100 patents and the publication of numerous peer-reviewed articles in esteemed scientific journals. Her work has been instrumental in advancing the integration of synthetic biology and enzymology, with a particular emphasis on optimizing enzyme properties for a diverse array of industrial applications.

Dr. Yang began her academic journey with a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where she specialized in directed enzyme evolution methodologies. From 2006 to 2015, she worked at Codexis, Inc., where she led multidisciplinary research teams addressing challenges in enzyme product commercialization. From 2015 to 2024, she continued her industry impact at Fornia BioSolutions, Inc., applying her expertise to drive innovation in synthetic biology and contributing to the development of a wide range of enzyme products. In 2020, recognizing the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in the life sciences, Dr. Yang co-founded BioMetis Technology, Inc. to harness AI for groundbreaking advancements in the field of enzyme engineering.

As the Co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of BioMetis Technology Inc., Dr. Shirley (Xiyun) Zhang is a visionary leader with over 20 years of experience in bioproduct research and development. She has spearheaded innovations in AI-driven modeling, gene discovery, and protein engineering. Her multifaceted expertise—spanning bioinformatics, data science, and both structure-based and physics-based modeling—has been instrumental in establishing BioMetis's pioneering AIDME technology.

Dr. Zhang earned her Ph.D. in Computational Chemistry and Biochemistry from UCLA in 2004, followed by postdoctoral research at UCLA, UCSD, and the Burnham Institute for Medical Research from 2004 to 2006. She then joined Codexis Inc., where she served as a Bioinformatics Scientist and project lead from 2006 to 2015, leading critical initiatives in protein directed evolution. Afterward, she served as a Senior Scientist at Intrexon Inc. In 2015, she joined Fornia BioSolutions Inc., initially as Associate Director and advancing through roles as Director and Vice President of Bioinformatics and Automation, where she led the integration of advanced bioinformatics and automation technologies until 2024. In 2020, Dr. Zhang co-founded BioMetis Technology Inc., where she continues to drive innovation through cutting-edge applications of AI, bioinformatics, and modeling.

Dr. Zhang is the author of over a hundred peer-reviewed publications and patents and has received several prestigious awards recognizing her scientific contributions. Outside of her professional work, she brings the same focus and creativity to her role as a parent and Havanese puppy owner, balancing family life with a passion for health, fitness, and culinary experimentation.
