Janet (Jie) Yang, Ph.D., is a dedicated leader serving as the Founder, CEO, and CTO of BioMetis Technology Inc., where she applies her expertise in biotechnology and synthetic biology to drive impactful change. With over 18 years of industry experience, Dr. Yang has played a pivotal role in the development and commercialization of bio-based products, guided by her steadfast commitment to green chemistry principles.  

Throughout her career, Dr. Yang has achieved significant milestones, including the acquisition of approximately 100 patents and the publication of numerous peer-reviewed articles in esteemed scientific journals. Her work has been instrumental in advancing the integration of synthetic biology and enzymology, with a particular emphasis on optimizing enzyme properties for a diverse array of industrial applications.

Dr. Yang's academic journey began with a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where her research focused on directed evolution methodologies. Following her doctoral studies, she joined Codexis Inc., where she led multidisciplinary research teams, addressing challenges in enzyme product commercialization.

In 2015, Dr. Yang co-founded Fornia BioSolutions, leveraging her expertise to drive innovation in synthetic biology. Recognizing the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in the field, she co-founded BioMetis Technology in 2020, aiming to harness AI for groundbreaking advancements.

As the Co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of BioMetis Technology Inc., Dr. Shirley (Xiyun) Zhang is a visionary leader with over 20 years of experience in bioproduct research and development. She has spearheaded innovations in AI-driven modeling, gene discovery, and protein engineering. Her multifaceted expertise—spanning bioinformatics, data science, structure-based, and physics-based modeling—has been instrumental in establishing BioMetis's pioneering AIDME technology.

Dr. Zhang earned her Ph.D. in Computational Chemistry and Biochemistry from UCLA in 2004 and completed postdoctoral research at UCLA, UCSD, and the Burnham Institute for Medical Research from 2004 to 2006. She then joined Codexis Inc., where she served from 2006 to 2015 as Bioinformatics Scientist and project lead, advancing critical protein directed evolution initiatives. Following her tenure at Codexis, she continued her work in protein directed evolution as a Senior Scientist at Intrexon Inc. In 2015, she co-founded Fornia BioSolutions Inc., initially as Associate Director and advancing through roles as Director and Vice President of Bioinformatics and Automation, where she led the integration of advanced bioinformatics and automation technologies until 2024.

In 2020, Dr. Zhang co-founded BioMetis Technology Inc., where she continues to push the boundaries of biotechnology through cutting-edge applications of AI, bioinformatics, and modeling techniques.

Dr. Zhang is the author of hundreds of peer-reviewed publications and patents and has received numerous prestigious awards recognizing her scientific contributions. Outside her professional work, she brings the same precision, efficiency, and productivity to her role as a parent and Havanese puppy owner, balancing family life with her passion for health, fitness, and culinary creativity.
